Marilyn AlexanderMarilyn Alexander: Nia is the first “exercise” I’ve done where a smile comes naturally and laughter flows freely and isn’t competing for air! I was very hesitant to come to my first class, but with a lot of prodding, I took those first steps. The awkwardness and self-consciousness soon left, and I could just relax into learning something entirely new, opening myself up to a whole different experience. I kept coming for the energy and lightness I felt doing Nia. The added bonus was the whole-body conditioning, the improved balance, agility, and flexibility, and the weight loss and muscle toning. We enter the path wherever we are, for whatever purpose, but the ongoing results are wholeness and health.

I never would have imagined that the first dance steps would eventually lead me to the White Belt Intensive Training and certification to teach, let alone to actually leading a class, but I’m glad they did. I am very blessed to be able to offer an avenue for others to enter the Nia Technique. Come join the fun and whatever else you choose to make the Nia experience!

Add the element of creativity into everything you do and witness yourself creating your life as art. — from The Nia Technique, Debbie Rosas and Carlos Rosas

Lynn BowmanLynn Bowman: I was a skinny weakling with a  pack-a-day habit and definitely NOT looking for exercise that cold day in February 2006 when I walked into my first Nia class. Kathryn Kelley brought Nia to Helena only recently, and invited me to come and dance to beautiful music. The music was great, the movements were easy and the women in the class were so open and friendly. I got over feeling like the “awkward new kid” right away.

As time went on, the only downside was my lack of air. I would have to curb my enthusiasm to catch my breath. The solution was easy! After 34 years, I stopped smoking. I had lots of help and support from family and friends, but Nia was the carrot that kept this stubborn mule motivated.  The next year, I took the White Belt Intensive and started teaching. Now in my fifties, I feel stronger than I did in my thirties. Nia is the gift that keeps on giving and I love sharing the gift with everyone.

Bobbi LambertsonBobbi Lambertson: I fell in love in the summer of 2002 when I took my first beginning tribal-style bellydance class in Helena from Marissa Porte. Since then I’ve become obsessed with learning all that I can and becoming the best dancer that I can. I’ve been performing with an incredible group of women since 2003, called Nataraja Tribal Dance. In 2005 I started teaching mostly
because I love the dance so much I wanted to share it with other women.

Tribal-style bellydance in a modern style originating in San Fransico. It has an ancient look and feel, but the format is new and designed to accommodate many dancers on “stage” at the same time. In this class I’ll teach you the basic steps plus isolations to perfect the moves. At the end of each class we’ll put it together and dance. And best of all, you’ll have fun and find a new appreciation of your body! More info: email Bobbi or call her at 443-3301.  Here is a link  for more info, http://tribes.tribe.net/tribalraqs
