Relax and Restore

Betty Relax Pose

“Yoga is the union of the individual self with the universal self” – B.K.S. Iyengar

This workshop will begin with simple postures to release tension, lengthen and stretch tight muscles and enhance circulation. We release into and sense our bodies. Then, with the use of props, such as blankets, bolsters, blocks and straps you will be guided into specific restorative postures to enable deep relaxation and healing. Mindful breathing will be introduced to calm your nervous system. From there, a guided relaxation will help you to connect to stillness. The process of calming and quieting your actions, thoughts and feelings enables you to move into increased self awareness. Practiced regularly, this will give your body the freedom it needs to merge into wholeness and peace. It is excellent preparation for meditation.

YOGA FOR HIPS, GROINS, KNEES AND LEGS
We humans use legs for movement and support just as a car uses wheels to move and carry it. Balance in our lower extremities is as important to our bodies as a well inflated and balanced tire is to a car. This workshop focuses on the intimate and dependent relationship of the hips, groins, knees and legs (feet too!) We will examine the effects of bringing equilibrium to these four body parts. With the assistance of props we will gradually move through a logical progression of standing, sitting, twisting and other applicable postures. The workshop is appropriate for most students at any level of competence. The two days of postures and discussion culminate with restoration and Savasana. (resting pose)
